The calculation is performed according to ASME appendix 5-110.3.
Depending on the size of the main stress differences and on the selected material of the vessel, the authoritative fatigue curve is selected. The maximum permitted load alternation numbers are determined out of it. Intermediate values are interpolated in a logarithmically exact way and they allow an optimum utilization of the material.
Furthermore, two different oscillations overlapping each other can be analyzed. The basis is a linear damage hypothesis. A number for the total damage is calculated which is the proof of strength and the rate of utilization of the material.
