Columns might be subject to wind loads, seismic loads, internal pressure and weight loads. Normally these loads are compensated by an additional constraining moment. This leads to great stresses or great wall thicknesses at the base of the column and thus to higher construction costs.

Especially for high and slender columns it is useful to add addi-tional supports to reduce the constraining moment.

Due to the fact that columns are also subject to thermal loads the additional supports cannot be as tight as to hinder thermal expansion. The supports must be designed with an appropriate gap.

The KSTA module calculates the according forces and moments, stresses due to wind loads or seismic loads, the displacements and the loads of the base and the supports for all column sections (shells).

Graphical and tabular output is possible.
