Openings (B9)

Openings in cylinders, cones and spheres under internal pressure

B9 module

Fundamentals:

Openings in pressure vessels reduce the pressure resisting surface of the base area. If the area reserve of the basic shell is unsufficient, a stiffener must be attached. Nozzles can be considered up to a maximum load-bearing length. If the ligament length between two openings is smaller than the shared load-bearing width of the base shell, it must be checked whether the load-bearing cross-sectional area suffices to support the pressure of the pressure loaded surface.

Program features:

With the module B9 round openings in cylinders, cones, and spheres can be designed according to the equivalent pressure area method. Pad-type flanges, set-on or protruding nozzles as well as set-on discs are taken into account as reinforcing area.
