Support skirts (S31)

Vessels on support skirts

S3.1 module

Fundamentals:

If pressure vessels are built on skirts, locally varying stresses have to be expected in the region of the connection between skirt and vessel wall, or for the skirt itself and the anchorage in the foundation. Wind loads, dead loads as well as other external forces and moments must be taken into account in addition to the pressure load.

Program features:

The general stability proof can be performed with the module S3.1. The support skirt connection is possible at the cylinder (slip-on support or ring support) or in the knuckle area (torispherical end or semi-ellipsoidal end). The support skirt can be made of one or two opposite segments and can be anchored in the foundation by a simple base ring or a double ring.
