Fundamentals:

Phase equilibrium calculations (also called flash calculations) are often required for process engineering problems. There is a variety of methods available in the literature for specific groups of components with acceptable results. Employing those methods for groups other than those specified can lead to great deviations when compared with test data. For many applications, equations of state like the SRK correlation fitted to reality by the use of binary interaction parameters offer a rigorous and acceptable method for many types of component groups.
