Flue gases (RGAS)

Properties and composition of flue gases

RGAS module

All combustion calculations require a knowledge of the properties of the effluent flue gases. The properties of all gas mixtures are a function of temperature, pressure and composition. Important applications include design of economizers and steam generators.

Program features:

The program RGAS determines the composition of a flue gas given the lower calorific value and measured CO2 content, for the case of solid fuels, fuel oil or natural gas.

From this composition (CO2, H2O, N2, O2), and the given pressure and temperature the program generates the following properties:

  • Flue gas composition (for a user-supplied CO2 volume fraction)
  • Density
  • Standard density
  • Actual and mean specific heat capacity
  • Dynamic and kinematic viscosity
  • Thermal conductivity
  • Prandtl number
  • Specific Enthalpy
  • Specific volume
  • Molecular weight
  • Specific gas constant

The properties can also be calculated directly for a user-supplied component breakdown of the flue gas.
