Evaporators (NAVE)

Calculation of heat transfer and vapor production in a horizontal shell-side evaporator

Only available in German

NAVE module

Program features:

The NAVE module

  • characterizes nucleate (pool) boiling heat transfer
  • calculates the quantity of vapor produced

in the evaporation of a multicomponent mixture at a predefined temperature difference (driving force).

Starting with two reference values for the heat flux and the resulting heat transfer coefficients and temperature difference, the program calculates the heat flux and the quantity of vapor generated at a predefined temperature profile specified by the user.

After input of the vaporizer geometry by the user the program calculates the vapor outlet velocity.

The module graphic generator displays the vaporizer and labels the physical dimensions.

Characterization of the mixture:

The multicomponent mixture is characterized by the following user-defined properties:

  • temperature range of the evaporation
  • normal boiling-point
  • critical pressure
  • mean vapor density
  • mean liquid density
  • mean enthalpy of evaporation
  • liquid specific heat capacity at the outlet temperature
  • liquid surface tension at the outlet temperature

With these mixture properties and the user-specified pressure and temperature on the evaporation side, the program calculates the corresponding heat transfer coefficients.
