The driving force for heat transfer is the "effective temperature difference", MTDe, between the hot and cold fluids. This temperature difference is calculated from the countercurrent or cocurrent log mean temperature difference LMTD, with a correction factor FN applied to account for the actual flow arrangement, which is in practice a combination of both.
MTDe = FN * LMTD
The module calculates the correction factor FN. FN is a function of the particular exchanger configuration (number of shell and tube passes), and relationships among the inlet and outlet stream temperatures.
