Coil type heat exchangers (COIL)
Design of coil type heat exchangers
Coil type exchangers are more efficient than shell and tube exchangers for low flow rates. Due to a simple construction they are low in price and easy to clean on the shell side. Their thermal efficiency approximates that of a true countercurrent flow type exchanger.

Program features
COIL is composed of modules from the ATLAS system which are linked together. The theory is presented in the LV Heat Atlas and the HEDH (Heat Exchanger Design Handbook) as well as in special research reports.
COIL can be used for gas and liquid flow. For the shell side it is optional to use baffles or an inner tube to achieve a special flow pattern. For large shell diameters or low shell-side flow velocities the effect of free convection on heat transfer rate becomes appreciable. This is considered by the program.
